Track Safety and Anti-Cut Protection

“Seguridad en Pista y Protección Anticortes,” Federación Andaluza de Deportes de Invierno (FADI), https://fadi.es/diston/.

Today we have to continue talking about safety, an aspect that we have been addressing in our latest articles, focused on offering valuable content that enriches the athletes and coaches who are part of this federation.

Safety is a fundamental pillar  not only to preserve the physical integrity of our team, but also to allow them to achieve better marks, competition after competition. The International Ski Federation (FIS) has taken important measures to ensure that the protection of skiers is guaranteed in all competitions and training.

So next, we are going to do a short review of the Security Measures modified or implemented by the FIS recently:

* Access Management to the Tracks:  Through increasingly strict controls to regulate the passage during training and competitions, and ensuring that only authorized personnel and competitors operate on the track, thus minimizing the risk of accidents with third parties.

* Control of Objects on the Course:  It is mandatory to keep the tracks and layout free of objects that may represent a danger to athletes, such as tools, poorly placed flags, or any other material that is not part of the standard equipment of the competition.

* Accreditation, Preparation and Maintenance of the Tracks:  Increasingly more strict and specific, which guarantees the safety of athletes and the achievement of better marks.

* Use of Nets and Protection Pads:  To mitigate the consequences of possible falls or departures from the track.

* Continuous Supervision and Rescue Personnel:  During all competitions, there are increasingly specialized supervision personnel and highly trained rescue teams, ready to act immediately in the event of any incident.

FADI is developing new training actions, which go one step beyond the current volunteer courses, to adapt to these issues.

* Mandatory use of anti-cut tights:  These must have a minimum level of 3 FIS Stars in the World Cup and Continental Cups for the 2025-2026 season.

This measure is a firm step toward preventing serious injuries , especially lacerations that can occur due to the sharp edges of skis.

During the 2024-2025 season, a high recommendation has been issued for these tights to be used at all levels of competition and training, underlining the importance of adequate equipment for the safety of athletes.

What is an Anti-Cut Shield?

An anti-cut shield is a garment specially designed to protect skiers from lacerations caused by ski edges during training and competitions. These garments, like those developed by the Diston brand , are elastic and do not limit mobility, allowing athletes to move freely while being protected.

What is a Laceration?

A laceration is a wound caused by a deep cut in the skin,  usually caused by a sharp object, such as the edges of a ski.

Edges, which thanks to advances in material, tools and repair machines, are increasingly better treated and guarantee the grip of athletes in the most demanding snow conditions, but which in return can become their worst enemy.

What is Diston?

Diston is an elastic anti-cut garment, specifically designed to protect skiers and snowboarders from cuts and abrasion burns that can occur during falls. This garment meets the strictest European standards in terms of protection, standing out for the following considerations:

– Level 4 out of 5 in anti-cut protection according to the European standard EN 388 (2016)

– Level 3 out of 4 in protection against abrasion.

– FIS 3 Star Certification (highest certification granted by the FIS for elastic anti-cut garments).

The most notable thing about this brand is that, in addition to offering high protection, it does not limit the mobility of athletes, allowing them to perform at their best in their training and competitions. This is achieved thanks to the special structure of the fabric used in its manufacture, which provides  effective protection on both sides of the final fabric.

FADI and DISTON

It is a pleasure for us that Diston joins the pool of collaborators of the Andalusian Winter Sports Federation, we believe that it is an ideal way to show our commitment to the safety of the athletes in our programs, and we think that the integration of these garments Within the day to day training and competitions, they will demonstrate that protection and performance are not at odds.

The recent concentration in Tignes has been a great test bed , and has left us very good evaluations from the coaches and athletes.

To this agreement we must add the one that we are going to close with the college of pharmacists in September and that will guarantee the presence of first aid kits in the technicians' backpacks, to guarantee adequate and immediate assistance.

Correct protection is the basis on which our boys can continue to exceed their limits and reach new heights in their sports careers.

We continue
